Music and the Arts
Fairstead House has an outstanding Performing Arts Centre with a fully equipped theatre and several instrumental and vocal teaching rooms. Our musicians flourish within an enthusiastic and committed environment, supported by experienced and trained staff, led by the Director of Music and Drama. The Performing Arts Centre is an exciting and busy place, where our Class Music and Drama lessons are taught, but also the whole school meets for assemblies, services and other celebrations.
“Our eldest daughter has flourished. She became much more independent and discovered a love of drama through 1:1 Speech and Drama lessons, achieving her LAMDA Grade 4 within a year.”
Our musical and drama productions are organised to include every pupil and we perform a musical each year, with Years 5&6 taking the lead roles and Years 3&4 in the chorus. Our most recent productions are The Lion King, Matilda, Annie and Joseph and his Amazing Technicoloured Dream Coat.
Music and Drama are at the very heart of the school with 75% of pupils having instrumental and singing lessons. There are many opportunities to perform in and out of school not just in our Informal Teatime Concerts or the annual Class Concerts, but we have also performed in the Palace House Graden and The Rothchild’s Yard at the NHRM in Newmarket. We have a 100% pass rate in our ABRSM and LAMDA exam results, with many achieving merit or distinction.
With such a rich and varied music and drama curriculum, pupils from Nursery to Year 6, experience a nurturing environment to learn and flourish in. All class music and drama lessons are taught by a specialist teacher and every child from Nursery to Year 6 has the opportunity to perform to an audience at least once a year.
