Dear Parents,

The summer term has ended with a week full of fabulous events!  There have been trips to the seaside, a picnic in the forest, an amazing art exhibition, a superb sports day and then this morning we had our prizegiving celebration.  As you will see below, the children have thoroughly enjoyed their final week!

Art Exhibition

Our art exhibition was a huge success! All children from Reception to Year 6 had at least three pieces of artwork on display and together it really was a feast for the eyes! A variety of media including different forms of sculpture, an ‘art day’ installation and of course the children’s sketchbooks showed a range of skills. I am so proud of the creativity throughout the school and have enjoyed seeing the children develop as artists. Thank you to all the families that joined us and made it such a wonderful event.

Art Clubs

Just a reminder that two after school art clubs will be running at Fairstead from September. These can be booked the usual way.

Also, if you or your friends or family are interested in adult art classes, please see the details on the flyer here and email me to book. There may also be an evening class on the horizon if there is enough interest!

KS2 Hunstanton Trip

On Monday, KS2 packed their rucksacks and headed off to the coast for a special end of term trip. In true Fairstead tradition, Hunstanton was the destination! In their home clothes, the children carried an array of beach toys through the sand dunes and we marked out our pitch for the day. The children had the best time playing with their friends, making sandcastles, digging impressive holes and exploring the beach. Year 6 even ventured down to the sea. Chef and her team made us a picnic – thank you very much! This was enjoyed on the sand and topped off with a delicious ‘Mr Whippy’ ice-cream cone. The whole of KS2 represented the school brilliantly, making their KS2 teachers very proud. As you can see from the photos below, everyone had a fantastic time… What a lovely way to end the year!

Kites

Every child from Reception to Year 6 was given a kite this morning so that they can continue to fly high!  If you have any photos of children flying their kites, please send them to registrar@fairsteadhouse.co.uk

Nursery

Although for many of us we continue at Nursery throughout the summer, we enjoyed getting involved in some end of term events this week too. Ponies 1 and 2 enjoyed their own Sports Days on Monday (and so did the parents!), and then many of you also visited the Summer Bounce on Wednesday. We’ve begun to say goodbye to our school leavers, with some off for the summer but coming back to Mrs Sanders in September, and some off to new schools. The Yearlings and some of the babies enjoyed a ‘Splash party’ this morning, with the slide into the paddling pool a particular attraction! We won’t be sharing those photos in the newsletter due to the ‘pool attire’ but perhaps you’ll see them on Tapestry!

Thank you to Mr and Mrs Millyard for the Sports Day shots – we were all so busy we forgot to take any!

Reception

This week, the children in Reception had a very special final visit to the forest and this was to say farewell to Fairstead Fred! The children enjoyed a teddy bear themed picnic and played lots of teddy bear games to say goodbye to their favourite bear!

They also thoroughly enjoyed participating in Sports Day and loved sharing all their super skills with you all.

Receiving medals in the church today was a wonderful way to celebrate everyone’s very hard work. Well done to you all for achieving so much during your first year at school.
Have a wonderful summer!

Year 1

We had a great time making (and eating) ice cream sundaes on Monday. Thank you so much to Mrs Allen and Chef for organising such a lovely activity!

The Art Gallery was a huge success and the children’s art work looked wonderful on display. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Newman for putting the whole show together! Thank you very much to you all for coming along too and showing your support.

I hope you all enjoy a well-deserved summer break and I look forward to seeing you in September.

Year 2

What a year we have had! Year 2 have made an amazing amount of progress in our journey stopping in a Fairy Tale Forest, learning about animals and creatures around the world, time travelling to the first bonfire night and then to 1666 and the Great Fire of London. It has been a year full of learning and fun. This week we have been making ice cream sundaes to complete our Ice Cream writing unit. The children had an amazing time designing and then making their sundaes. Sports Day was amazing and all of the children put in their very best efforts! On Thursday we read my favourite end of year book and thought about how we can make the world a more beautiful place just like Miss Rumphius with her lupines.
Have a wonderful summer holiday filled with fun and adventure!

Years 3-6

Congratulations to everyone in Years 3-6 who received prizes at this morning’s Speech Day. Mr Radford and Mr Salt reminded us all how busy, creative, musical, dramatic, sporty and successful you have been! A special well done to our Year 6 leavers too! Your trophies, shields and certificates were all thoroughly deserved and you entertained us with some wonderful speeches. We wish you all good luck as you move on to Year 7! On behalf of Miss Hunt, Mrs Newman, Mr Everitt, Mr Peace and all the staff who work with Years 3-6, thank you for all our cards, gifts and kind words. Have a wonderful summer holiday!

Sports Day

We were very fortunate at sports day this year to avoid the rain. Despite the threat of rain, the whole school went up to sports day for the final competition of the year. Everyone demonstrated their determination during the events, both track and field. I was a wonderful time for them to show off their skills in the events that they had all chosen to compete in. Despite some concerns about performing in front of parents, or trepidation about the distance or height, they threw themselves into the events – sometimes quite literally. All the staff were impressed with both the behaviour and attitude and the children deserve to be congratulated. It was clear how much the children loved the sport and then, after, they also loved the inflatables.

ABRSM Exams

This term, we had a record number of candidates taking ABRSM exams: 4 passed with high passes, 10 passed with merit and 5 passed with distinction! Grades 1 to 4 were taken in singing and on piano and violin. Congratulations to everyone on their tremendous success!

Have a lovely summer!
